The third pillar of The Crowdfunding Manifesto is The Rewards. The rewards are what you offer to your contributors in exchange for monetary support. The rewards create an exchange element that is vital for sustainable crowdfunding. Rewards can be divided into four broad levels: small ($5-$100), medium ($150-$500), large ($600-$1,000) and extra-large ($1,000+). Every reward should be special and should feel unique in some way. We'll take the next few weeks to go through each of the four levels in more detail.

The rewards that are priced at over $1,000 are considered to be in the extra-large level. A typical crowdfunding campaign - with a goal between $2,000 - $5,000 - will receive a 0 to 2 contributions at this level. It's very common for this level to not be selected during a typical campaign. But extra-large rewards are still important because they serve to establish your personality and build your overall brand - even more so than your large rewards because the extra-large section is usually more extravagant, imaginative, and unique.

The extra-large level rewards quickly add up and each-and-every reward has a significant impact on reaching your crowdfunding goal. These rewards must be very special and should offer your contributors a limited-edition incentive to give. Even though this price range is a long-shot - you should be able to realistically deliver the extra-large rewards.

Examples of rewards successfully offered at the extra-large level include special trips/events for the contributors, a producer credit on your record/film, a significant impact on the final project, etc. The common theme for these rewards, as for the medium and large levels, is "high-touch" - i.e. a personal interaction with you, the Creative behind a great project. The extra-large rewards allow you to take this theme of "personal impact" the the next level. Be imaginative but make sure that you carefully consider the costs.

During your crowdfunding campaign, publicly celebrate every extra-large level reward that is selected - through social media and in public appearances. If your rewards are appropriately new, a press release may be work. This will highlight the unique nature of what your are offering and it will also set the stage for additional contributions at this level. Remember to always thank those that have chosen to support you at this extremely generous level.
