The power of crowdfunding can be harnessed for nearly all creative endeavors - including technical design, software and web development, and coding. Creatives in these fields, that take the crowdfundng plunge, have to think a bit harder about fair rewards to offer in return for financial contributions. But successful crowdfunding for development is becoming more and more common.
A few platforms offer the right combination of tools needed for successful crowdfunding in more technical fields. Our friend Paul in Ireland, of webdistortion, did a great job of summarizing a few very powerful tools:
Quirky offers product designers and inventors a shot at getting their product to market. They call their product a ‘social product development tool’ – which it is, allowing the community to vote for products that they think would sell, and are worth creating, in the process single handedly changing the way people think about product development. Feedback can be received on product direction, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, all from within the Quirky site, resulting in products that have a stronger vision than those generated through traditional means.
