If you shoot to high, you will fail. That is obvious enough, so the question becomes, how much money can I reasonably raise? That depends on who you are, and the strength of your network, but here are some general guidelines.
Keep these two facts in mind:
1. The most popular contribution on RocketHub is $20
2. The average contribution on RocketHub is $50
Most people can raise $500 - $1000 fairly easily. With an average contribution of $50, that means getting between 10 – 20 contributions from friends, family and fans. That sounds doable, right?
We are seeing a lot of Creatives have success in the $1,500 - $5,000 range. That means generating between 30 – 100 contributions.
Now, how many people are you gonna need to raise $10,000? That’s right… on average you’ll need to inspire around 200 people to successfully fund a $10,000 goal.
What about $100,000? Now we’re taking about getting 2,000 people on board at an average of $50 each…
NOTE: There are a few examples of projects that have successfully raised this kind of money, but please understand, they are the exception, not the rule, and NONE of them actually listed a six-figure goal.
Don’t count on your project going viral. Make a budget, shoot for an attainable goal and grow your fan base!
